Hearing Aids Cutting Out? Track the Pattern Before the Repair Visit
House of Hearing

A hearing aid that works for an hour and then goes quiet can be more frustrating than one that will not start at all. Intermittent problems are hard to demonstrate during an appointment, so the pattern you notice at home can be valuable.
Begin by separating what the device is doing from what your hearing is doing. Do not assume that every sudden change is a battery or connection problem, especially if an ear feels different even without the hearing aid.
Identify which sound is disappearing
Does ordinary conversation cut out, or only music and calls streamed from a phone? Is one device affected or both? Does the problem happen when you move, after charging, or later in the day? Record the time and situation rather than repeatedly changing several settings at once.
If only streamed sound stops while surrounding sounds remain clear, tell the team that specifically. Phone settings, compatibility or the connection may need investigation. If all sound fades, power, blockage or another device fault may be involved. The pattern helps guide testing; it does not establish the diagnosis.
Check the basics your instructions allow
Confirm that the device has the expected charge or a correctly fitted fresh battery. Check that a charger is connected and that the devices show the indicator described in their instructions. Inspect for visible wax or debris and clean only as demonstrated for your model.
Use the correct wax filter, dome or other replacement part if you have been trained to change it. Do not probe an opening with a sharp object, rinse the device, apply household cleaners or open a rechargeable battery compartment. Small components and batteries should be kept away from children and pets.
Treat moisture and damage carefully
If a device becomes wet, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and contact your provider. Do not use a hairdryer, oven or other direct heat to dry it. A device that is damaged, unusually hot or has a swollen battery should not continue to be worn or charged; seek product-specific advice.
Report any pain, drainage or irritation in the ear. These symptoms require attention beyond routine device troubleshooting, and you should not keep wearing an uncomfortable device simply to complete a test.
Make the service visit easier to reproduce
Bring both hearing aids, the charger, your phone and any accessory involved. Include the notes you made and explain what you have already tried. Our repair and maintenance service can help determine the next step, including whether manufacturer repair is needed.
If the devices are functioning but listening has become harder, an updated hearing evaluation may be appropriate. A sudden decrease in your hearing needs immediate medical attention rather than waiting for a repair appointment.
Contact House of Hearing to discuss the problem and what to bring. Careful observations can reduce guesswork and help the team address the actual interruption you are experiencing.
