If you’re reading this article, then it’s highly likely that you’re considering whether the ReSound ONE is the right hearing technology for yourself or a loved one.
However, what you are likely finding is that although many of the articles available online share all features and technical jargon, very few share the real-life thoughts and feedback of people that experienced the ReSound ONE first hand.
That’s why, when this new technology was launched in September 2020, we decided to take a slower pace than many. Rather than running to our patients and telling them about all the features and promises of this new technology, we decided to conduct a small trial.
Each of our Doctors of Audiology across our 10 locations invited a small number of long-standing, trusted patients to be fitted and trial the ReSound ONE for 14 days before returning to share their experience.
Each of these patients has been wearing hearing technology for at least 4 years and was chosen because we know they’ll give us the full truth without any sugar-coating.
In this article, you’re going to hear how they rated their experience and whether they would recommend the ReSound ONE to you.
But before we share the feedback from these patients, let’s look at what makes the ReSound ONE different.
Why Is the ReSound ONE Different?
This is a great question because although each manufacturer periodically releases new technology – the updates can feel somewhat samey.
In the same way that Apple regularly releases new slightly adapted versions of their iPhone, the same complaint can regularly be heard about hearing technology.
However, the ReSound ONE came with some big promises.
- M&RIE – by having the microphone and receiver in your ear, rather than behind the ear, which all other traditional hearing devices have had, this promised a more natural and complete sound than any other technology prior to it.
- Ultra-Focus – this feature was created to allow you to zone into individual conversations in noisy environments, so whether around the dinner table at a restaurant or walking the downtown streets, it allows you to choose which sound like you would like to focus on and gives you a simple feature to improve your one-on-one hearing.
- Longer Lasting Rechargeable Battery – with up to 30 hours battery life of a single charge, this was a big leap in battery lifetime to many other rechargeable hearing devices.
- Direct Streaming from Apple and Android – whereas most Bluetooth hearing aids have had the ability to stream music, audio, and phone calls from an Apple device, the ReSound ONE now offers the same benefits to Android users (for those with Android version 10 or above).
It also comes with many of the developments you would expect, including a new C6 chip that promises 50% more power and 200% more memory, and a new sleeker design.
The question is, does it deliver on these promises?
What Did Our Trusted Patients Think?
Following a 14-day trial of the ReSound ONE, we asked each of our long-standing experienced patients to share their brutally honest feedback.
We demanded the full truth: the benefits and the negatives.
Here’s what they had to say:
Anthony is a 67-year-old retired Fedex worker who enjoys golf and bowling. He shared how compared to his existing hearing technology, the ReSound ONE performed better with more clarity. He noted that he particularly enjoyed the Bluetooth capabilities which allowed him to stream sound from his cell phone directly to his hearing devices to be able to watch videos on Facebook without having to disrupt his wife. His advice to anybody considering the ReSound ONE’s is that he would very much recommend them and he rated them a 9 out of 10.
Jon is a retired structural iron worker who has been married for over 50 years, has six kids, 24 grandkids and 6 great grandkids. A lover of the outdoors, he enjoys campaign, fishing and working on his cars. After wearing Starkey for the past several years, Jon tried his fair pair of ReSound ONE’s and his initial impression was that “they are far superior” – he shared how he can hear conversations now, both close-up and from afar. He shared the example of how he has also struggled with wind noise when outdoors while his Starkey’s – with the belief that this is what wind on hearing aids sounds like – but with his new ReSound ONE’s, he discovered little to no wind noise. His wife and family have even noticed the difference, where previously he couldn’t clearly hear conversations from other rooms – just muffled sound – he’s now been able to hear all conversations much clearer. His advice to anybody considering trying them is to “do it”. He summed his experience up by sharing how the ReSound ONE’s have been far greater to anything.
Barris had a mixed experience. The negatives of his experiences were that the ReSound ONE’s didn’t feel secure in his ears, especially when wearing his glasses and a facemask, but he was unsure if that was because of his anatomy. He also shared how he had feedback and wind noise when jogging. On the positive side of his experience, he was impressed with the simplicity of the rechargeable batteries and the Bluetooth capabilities, which he has not had available to him with his previous devices. His advice was that if you are looking to address your hearing challenges, then the ReSound ONE’s should be a consideration.
Dennis is a highly active 69-year old hunter, fisher and hiker that has been shooting guns since he was ten years old. Having spent 4 years in the Coast Guard as a diesel mechanic, 12 years in construction and 30 years as a quality engineer for a sprinkler company. The biggest difference that he noticed with the ReSound ONE’s was the amount of control that he had over his environment and hearing aids, he noted how he could go from outside to inside and fully control his experience with the app on his phone (which he was highly impressed with). But the biggest thing that stood out was how his loved ones immediately noticed the difference, he could actually hear what they were saying and didn’t have to say “what?” – the ReSound ONE offered far better sound quality than his previous devices. His advice to anybody that is considering trailing the ReSound ONE is; “you should try it, you’ll like it. It changes the quality of your life” Dennis rated the ReSound ONE’s a 9 out of 10.

Josh Hankins, BC-HIS has been part of the House of Hearing team for ten years and is our highly-respected expert when it comes to configuring high technology devices and accessories. He truly is the “technology king” of our offices. He rated the ReSound ONE as 8 out of 10 and was particularly impressed with the recognizable speech in noisy environments. He suggested that the ReSound ONE is good for many people, but for everybody and that he would recommend it.
Liz Hankins is well-known for her passion for hearing devices and healthy hearing with charity work resulting in her helping hundreds of underprivileged people to hear better throughout Mexico, Costa Rica and Vietnam. She said that she was impressed with how natural the ReSound ONE’s were through the M&RIE receiver, but stated that some of her patients had challenges when connecting the device to their cell phone, with one patient struggling to work the app. However, she rated the ReSound ONE as 7 out of 10 and stated that she would recommend it.
